The life of a priest…

Well, here I go with my third blog post…laughing as I compose it!

Yesterday (Sunday the 30th of September) was a crazy day for me.  I had all three Sunday AM Masses (8, 10 & 11:30) and then went to make the rounds at St Luke Hospital.  Of course, instead of the usual light Sunday admission count, it was extremely high in terms of new Catholic admissions.  In any event, it took me approximately 2 hours to complete the rounds and after I was done, I headed over to Bed, Bath & Beyond to pick up a roasting pan…word to the wise: if you invite your parents over for a roast chicken dinner, make sure you are in possession of a roasting pan…as I was saying, I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond.  I have just come from the hospital and so therefore I am dressed in a black clerical suit.  As I am seeking out the best bargain, the following is addressed to yours truly: “excuse me, do you work here?”  Stunned, I looked up to see a middle-aged woman staring at me.  I honestly didn’t know what to say.  Finally, I said, “Miss, I am a Catholic priest.”  She countered with, “Yes, I know but…..” and turned and walked away.  I have to admit, at first, I was stunned but quickly found myself uncontrollably laughing in the midst of pans of all sorts.  Fortunately, some parishioners from St Mary’s happened to appear and asked me what was so funny and soon they too were sharing a good laugh with me.  Why am I sharing this with you?  I hope that after the dark and dreary day we had here in Massachusetts yesterday, this light-hearted tale will put a smile on your face!

Happy Monday!
